This town was the heart of American airborne operations on D-Day. Then on to Utah Beach. This area was to be assaulted at 0630 hours by the U.S. 4th Infantry Division, following a drenching naval and air bombardment. Stron currents forced the landing to occur more than 2,000 yards from the planned beach area. However the landing was a good start with very few casualties compared to the trauma at Omaha. Continue to Pointe Du Hoc, situated between Utah and Omaha. U.S. Army Rangers planned to climb the 100 foot cliffs and take out the German 155mm guns located there. Allied commanders had agreed that the overall success of the landings at both Omaha and Utah would be determined by neutralizing the guns at Pointe Du Hoc.

The next stop is at Omaha Beach and the Musee du Debarquement at Arromanches. Walk Omaha Beach and the visit the museum. The Landing Museum displays models of the famous Mulberry Harbors, which were assembled in Great Britain and the towed across the Channel to be used as an artificial port.
